Healthy Kidney Plate

Some of the most common questions we get asked by our clients are “can you give me a diet?” or “can you give me a meal plan?”

We know it can be super frustrating trying to navigate through the overwhelming amount of information on the internet and the social media world, when trying to eat right for the health of your kidneys.

Problem is, there is so much MISINFORMATION out there. Especially when fad diets are always promising results! The problem is with fad diets, much like fashion trends, are they become popular for a short time period, however they are based on NO clinical, scientific evidence and NO dietary recommendations. Eating for the health of your kidneys is best based on science, research, clinical evidence, and dietary guidelines.

Why make things more complicated than they need to be?

We believe in making things as simple as possible to achieve great results and outcomes. This is what we love about the simple balanced plate method for kidney nutrition.

What does a Healthy Kidney Plate look like?

  • 1/2 of your plate fruits and veggies

  • 1/4 of your plate should ideally be healthy whole grains and starchy veggies

  • 1/4 (or less) should be protein.

Plant-based protein (i.e., nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, lentils, soy, tofu), while still limited in amount consumed, does not have as much of a negative impact on kidney health as does animal-based protein.

In general, diets that are low in animal protein and include more plant-based foods have a lower acid load, which is more kidney friendly.

Keep the Healthy Kidney Plate image in your mind as the GOLD STANDARD for eating kidney friendly meals throughout the day!
